FAST Training Services Limited is a Private Finance Initiative formed in a partnership agreement between Alenia Marconi Systems and CAE (a Canadian defence contractor) working together with Flagship Training.
The role of FAST is to act as prime contractor to the Ministry of Defence to build a training school, design and develop training facilities and deliver training for submariners for a new class of nuclear submarine.
The Requirement.
A condition of the FAST business operation is that they must hold an ISO9000 certificate.
They approached Clark Quality late in June 2002 with the requirement to achieve certification by the early in 2003 – a very tight timescale to achieve.
The Solution.
Working in partnership with our contacts in LRQA (the certification body selected by FAST), we were able to respond rapidly, submitting a proposal early in July. FAST were pleased to accept this proposal and work commenced in August. A lean system was developed, based on process maps with supporting documents and certification was achieved with LRQA raising just one observation.

Receiving their ISO9001 certificate.

Status.
Clark Quality continues to provide maintenance of the Quality Management System carrying out internal audits, participating in management reviews and attending LRQA ongoing surveillance visits.
FAST-TSL CEO, Geoff Butterworth said,
“ISO9000 registration is an essential pre-requisite for our business with the MOD. Clark Quality managed our registration from planning and design of our system and manuals, through to successful certification by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance. We are proud of our achievement and delighted with the lean, easily operated system which I am sure will continue to add value to our business”.
